About Your Scan

You no doubt have questions about your scan. This is a great place to start. Review the following general steps to get a better idea of what to expect before, during and after your scan. For more detailed information, visit the Neuraceq® website, see the full Prescribing Information and talk to your healthcare provider.

Note that diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals involve exposure to radiation, which is associated with a dose-dependent increased risk of cancer. Talk to your healthcare provider about precautions to limit exposure.

Before

It is important to stay hydrated before your scan. While fasting is not required, your doctor may ask you to.

Upon arrival:

  • Your weight and height will be recorded
  • An intravenous (IV) catheter line (small needle) will be placed in a vein in your arm or another suitable location
  • You’ll receive an injection of Neuraceq® about one hour before your scan, during which time it will be absorbed by the target cells in your body
  • You may be asked to use the restroom after your injection and before your scan

During

Image acquisition can begin 45 to 130 minutes after the intravenous administration of the florbetaben F 18 injection.

During the 15- to 20-minute scan:

  • A PET/CT technologist or nurse will assist you
  • You’ll lie on your back on the scanner bed with your arms raised above your head
  • The scanner bed will move slowly into the scanner and go all the way up to your head
  • You may be asked to change body positions

After

When your scan is complete, the results will be sent to your care team.

In the meantime:

  • Continue to hydrate and go to the bathroom for the first few hours to reduce radiation exposure
  • Schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor to discuss your results

Coverage and Insurance

Affordability

There are numerous financial aid organizations that may be able to help you with the cost of your scan based on your eligibility. Once enrolled, ask your Care Coordinator for information on organizations that may be able to assist you.

Education & Resources

A PET scan is an imaging test that helps doctors look for disease sites in the body. A PET scan uses an imaging agent—like Neuraceq®—that contains a small amount of radioactive tracer to make disease sites visible.

NEURACEQ® (florbetaben F18 Injection) is a FDA approved imaging medicine used during a brain scan called positron emission tomography (PET). It helps doctors to see whether certain protein deposits, called amyloid plaques, are present in the brain.

This scan is used in adults who are experiencing memory or cognition problems to help:

  • Understand whether Alzheimer’s disease may be causing symptoms, or if another condition could be involved with cognitive decline.
  • Determine whether a person may be eligible for certain treatments that target amyloid plaques, based on the treatment’s prescribing information.

Logistics Support

If your scan facility doesn’t use Neuraceq®, your Care Coordinator can assist you in communicating with your doctor to confirm the best next steps.

Once you have found an imaging site in your area, work with your Care Coordinator directly to determine if it is in-network with your insurance.

Once your scan has been scheduled, your Care Coordinator will offer you the option to sign up for scan reminders.

You should call your imaging site or Care Coordinator to go through the necessary steps for rescheduling.
