About Your Scan

You no doubt have questions about your scan. This is a great place to start. Review the following general steps to get a better idea of what to expect before, during and after your scan. For more detailed information, visit the PYLARIFY® website, see the full Prescribing Information and talk to your healthcare provider.

Note that diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals involve exposure to radiation, which is associated with a dose-dependent increased risk of cancer. Talk to your healthcare provider about precautions to limit exposure.

Before

It is important to stay hydrated before your scan. While fasting is not required, your doctor may ask you to.

Upon arrival:

  • Your weight and height will be recorded
  • An intravenous (IV) catheter line (small needle) will be placed in a vein in your arm or another suitable location
  • You’ll receive an injection of PYLARIFY® one hour before your scan, during which time it will circulate through your bloodstream
  • You may be asked to use the restroom after your injection and before your scan

During

About one hour after your injection, your scan will begin. The scan could last up to 40 minutes.

During this time:

  • A PET/CT technologist or nurse will assist you
  • You’ll lie on your back on the scanner bed with your arms raised above your head
  • The scanner bed will move slowly into the scanner and go all the way up to your head
  • You may be asked to change body positions

After

When your scan is complete, the results will be sent to your care team.

In the meantime:

  • Continue to hydrate and go to the bathroom for the first few hours to reduce radiation exposure
  • Schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor to discuss your results

Education & Resources

A PET scan is an imaging test that helps doctors look for disease sites in the body. A PET scan uses an imaging agent—like PYLARIFY®—that contains a small amount of radioactive tracer to make disease sites visible.

PYLARIFY® (piflufolastat F 18) Injection is a radioactive diagnostic agent. PYLARIFY is used along with positron emission tomography (PET) imaging for men with prostate cancer:

  • with suspected metastasis who are candidates for initial definitive therapy.
  • with suspected recurrence based on elevated serum levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level.

PYLARIFY Injection is designed to detect prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-positive lesions when used with PET imaging (scans).

For more information about PYLARIFY®, please, see the full Prescribing Information and talk to your healthcare provider.

No, PYLARIFY® is currently only available in the United States.

Logistics Support

If your scan facility doesn’t use PYLARIFY®, your Care Coordinator can assist you in communicating with your doctor to confirm the best next steps.

You can use our scan facility locator to find an imaging site in your area and work with your Care Coordinator directly to determine if it is in your network.

Once your scan has been scheduled, your Care Coordinator will offer you the option to sign up for scan reminders.

You should call your imaging site or Care Coordinator to go through the necessary steps for rescheduling.
